Prof. Dr. Rupert Gerzer

Provost, Skoltech University, Moscow, Russia

Starting October 2015, he is Professor and Vice Director of the Space Faculty (“CREI”) at Skoltech University in Moscow, Russia. He holds various senior positions with organizations in health telematics, travel medicine and astronautics. He served as Trustee to the International Academy of Astronautics from 2003 to 2015, as Editor-in-Chief of Acta Astronautica from 2008 to 2010 and serves as Co-Editor for Life Sciences of this Journal since 2008. He is also Head of the University Council of the University Bonn-Rhein-Sieg since 2007. He received the Life Sciences Award of the International Academy of Astronautics in 2003, the Leonov Medal of the Association of Space Explorers in 2013, the Gagarin Medal of the Russian Federation of Cosmonautics and was named ELGRA Medalist for his life time achievements in space life sciences 2015.

Dr. Claudia Mika

Founder & CEO, Temos International GmbH, Germany

Dr. Claudia Mika is the Managing Director of Temos International GmbH, a spin-off of the German Aerospace Center DLR, a German governmental research organization. Since 2004 she has been working on the Temos certification systems, assessing hospitals, rehabilitation centers, reproductive care centers, and dental clinics worldwide according to the Temos quality criteria for international patient management that were developed together with leading travel health insurances and assistance companies. Due to the Temos quality certifications of internationally oriented medical institutions and supported by Dr. Mika’s consultancy work for the implementation of international patient departments in medical facilities all over the world she is very well grounded in medical tourisms topics. She has been working with more than 100 hospitals and medical facilities worldwide from Brazil to the Philippines. Dr. Mika has been regularly invited to international Medical Tourism Conferences and advises different associations and governmental institutions regarding medical tourism issues. She developed the guideline “International Patients Department Processes” for the Turkish Ministry of Health. In 2011, Dr. Mika received the “High Potential Company Award 2011” for Temos, funded by the European Union. Since 2013 Dr. Mika has been appointed to be one of the judges for the IMTJ Medical Travel Awards, an independent and objective set of awards for the medical travel and tourism industry. Since January 2014 she is the Vice Chairwoman of the Diplomatic Council Healthcare Forum.

Dr. Hashem Al-Fadel

Dr. Hashem AlFadel is a Healthcare Quality Consultant. He got an extensive experience in USA, Europe, Middle East, and Far East working with hospitals, manufacturer and service providers in Biomedial, quality services, and hospital management. He is one of the founders of two hospitals in Jordan and participated in the planning and commissioning of three hospitals in the Middle East and Far East. He worked in leading positions for GE-Healthcare for the Middle East, Project HOPE-USA/China & Egypt, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center-KSA, AGMEST group in Jordan and at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, Indiana, USA. He holds B.S in biomedical engineering, MBA in healthcare management and PhD in healthcare technology management from Universities of Illinois, Indiana and Washington. He has published over 50 articles in major international journals and two book chapters and presented in many conferences.
Currently he is the Temos regional director for Jordan & KSA and Chairman of Temo Assessors Advisory Board, Quality Advisor for QHA Trent Accreditation, UK, member of the board and Chairman of Quality Council for Istiklal Hospital, Jordan and Chairman of the Board for Middle East Institute for Special Education.
In addition he served as a quality consultant for Ibn Al-Haytham Hospital, and for King Fahad Medical City and Prince Sultan Medical City in Riyadh.

Dr. Kai Uwe Bindseil

Dr. Kai Uwe Bindseil studied chemistry at Georg August University in Göttingen. In 1993, he wrote his doctoral thesis in bioorganic chemistry. After a post-doctoral fellowship at Ciba-Geigy AG in Basle, he moved to AnalytiCon AG in Berlin and Potsdam, where he was COO and responsible for drug discovery, marketing and international business development. In 2001, Dr Bindseil became Director of the newly founded BioTOP platform, which was the cluster management platform for the German bioregion Berlin Brandenburg. Following 9 years of sustained cluster development, with a strong focus on translation of research into growth in biotechnolgy, Dr Bindseil became Cluster Manager of Health Capital Berlin Brandenburg in 2010. In addition he is now Head of the Division Life Sciences / Healthcare Industry at Berlin Partner for Business and Technology. Dr Bindseil is one of the most experienced cluster managers in Europe and part of the founding team of the Council of European BioRegions, the Europe-wide network of clusters which works to support cluster development and partnership worldwide. He supported the German and European biotechnology as spokesman of the working group of German bioregions and steering group member of Scanbalt. He is juror in several business plan competitions.

Dr. Stefan Esser

Dr Stefan Esser is the Regional Medical Director Central Europe with International SOS, based in Neu-Isenburg near Frankfurt, Germany. Dr. Esser graduated from the University of Aachen, Germany in 1988 with a Medical Degree, followed by extended clinical experience in surgery, plastic Surgery, emergency medicine, travel medicine, sports medicine and family medicine at the Central Military Hospital Koblenz, Germany and other large hospitals in Germany including the UNTAC Field Hospital Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He also holds a Master of Public Health and a Master of Business Administration. Dr. Esser has published and given a large number of articles, lectures, presentations and seminaries on travel medicine, travel risk prevention, medical marketing and pain management. Dr. Esser’s current position with International SOS and experience covers a variety of topics, including occupational health, pandemic planning and medical requirements for remote site locations, and includes countries such as Albania, Algeria, Burkina Faso, China, Equatorial Guinea, Egypt, Guinea, India, Indonesia, Mali, Morocco, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Zimbawe and others. Dr Esser also leads International SOS’ Frankfurt Assistance center, from where around 100 evacuations and repatriations are managed every year. International SOS provides world-wide around 13,300 evacuations and repatriations.

Obaida Qatuni graduated in medical laboratory science in 2004 at Hashemite University, Jordan. She gained comprehensive experience at different pathology departments in Jordan and at Dubai Health Authority (DHA) as quality coordinator, safety officer, infection coordinator on senior level and lab deputy director. Obaida is CPHQ certified, a trained JCI surveyor and participated in the DHCC outpatient standards second edition review as well as in the JCI 5th edition standard’s review. She has prepared and led different hospitals and laboratories to JCI (re-) accreditation, ISO 15189 certification, re-licensing inspections, Temos certification, DQAP, SKEA, CCPC, CAP, customer satisfaction and risk management projects at DHA and others. Dr. Vladimir Mozetic

Assist.Prof. Vladimir Mozetič, MD, PhD was born in 1967 in Rijeka, Croatia. He graduated from the Medical Faculty in 1991. From 1992 to 2005 he worked at Department of Urology, University Hospital Center Rijeka, firstly as young resercher and afterwards urologist. Since 2006 he has been employed in private Medico Polyclinic in Rijeka, and from 2008 he was the director of the Polyclinic until April 2016. He completed his PhD degree in 2005 and was selected the scientific Educational Assistant Professor at the Medical Faculty in the fields of urology and menagement, and he also gained a specialization in the health care management as well as subspecialization in urologic oncology and andrology. He is a lecturer on Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Heath Studies and Faculty of Touristic and Hospitality Management - University in Rijeka. In 2013 he received annual award as „Project Manager“ from Croatian Manager Association and in 2015 he received annual award of City of Rijeka for the promotion of health tourism as important commercial field in region. Dr. Mozetič is a member of the European Urological Association as well as the Governing Board of the Croatian Society of Urology. Dr. Mozetič was President of the County Committee of the Croatian Medical Chamber, the President of the Committee for Private Practice for the Croatian Medical Chamber (2011-2015). He is a member of the Council for Health of the regional County from 2012 and president of Kvarner Health Tourism Cluster as well as president of Section of Medical Tourism in Croatian Chamber of Economy. Dr. Mozetič is one of the editors and co-authors of the chapters in five professional books and co-authored more than 30 scientific and technical papers. He actively participated in at manny conferences and symposiums per year at home and abroad. He is married and father of three children.

Alfred Frankovic

Alfred Franković, mag.ing.nav.mech. was born in 1970 in Rijeka, Croatia. He graduated at the Faculty of Maritime studies in University of Rijeka, but he spent the entire lifetime in sales in renowned companies. The most of his working lifetime he spent in Raiffeisen building society as a Regional Director where he was responsible for the fulfillment of business objectives, development of strategic and operational company plans, making of regional budget, planning and control of sales activities etc. His communication skills helps him to quite easily find a solutions to the problem, whatever it was a motivation talk to an employee, confilct resolution or exploring new business possibilities. In 2015 he bacame Cluster manager of the Kvarner Health Tourism Cluster. His previous experience in sale turned to be excellent for work as a Cluster Manager, and the proof is that the Kvarner Health Tourism Cluster won the award of the International Medical Travel Journal as the best medical and health-tourism cluster of the year. He also gained a Medical tourism professional certification (issued by the Medical Tourism Association from the USA). As a Cluster manager he actively participated in manny conferences and fairs at home and abroad. He also has HANFA and EBCL licence ( European Business Competence Licence). He is married and a father of two girls.

Harald Mylord

Harald Mylord has been Head of Healthcare at Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technology since 2013. Previously, he worked at TSB Innovationsagentur Berlin GmbH, where he was project manager for Medical Technology from 2002, and then head of the Healthcare Coordination Unit from 2010. After secondary school, he trained as a banker, studying politics and economics at the Freie Universität Berlin (FUB) and the University of Sussex, graduating in 1992 with an FUB diploma (Dipl-Pol.). He went on to further studies in marketing and PR at the European Business Management School and PR firm Rowland Sallingbury Casey in London. Dr. Klaus Schäfer

Born in St. Wendel in Saarland in 1960, Dr. Schäfer moved to Munich in 1980 to start working as paramedic for the Bavarian Red Cross. In late 1983 he began studying philosophy at Ludwig-Maximilians-University, changing to medicine in summer 1984. During his studies he continued working on intensive care units of a University Hospital. After graduation in medicine and one and a half years in hospital he returned to transporting patients as an emergency doctor before joining ADAC-Ambulance Service in 1993. Deputy medical director from 1995 to 1997 and medical director from 2001 to 2005 at present Dr. Schäfer is assistance and travel medicine consultant at ADAC Service GmbH as well as member of ADAC-Medical Services management circle. His Excellency Dato' Zulkifli Adnan

Ambassador to Malaysia

Ambassador Dato’ Zulkifli Adnan has been serving as a diplomat in the Malaysian Foreign Service for over 32 years. He has a post-graduate Master’s degree in law and diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy, Boston, USA. He presented his Letter of Credence to the German President Mr. Joachim Gauck on 19 May 2015, thus formally assuming the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia to the Federal Republic of Germany. He previously held the post of Director General of the Department of Maritime Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, mainly dealing with issues related to the delimitation of maritime boundaries with neighbouring countries. Throughout his career, H.E. Dato’ Zulkifli has served in various posts abroad. His last foreign assignment was as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Bosnia and Herzegovina (2008-2011). He has also served in the Hague, Netherlands (2001-2004), New York, USA (1993-1998), and Colombo, Sri Lanka (1986-1988). H.E. Dato’ Zulkifli is married to Datin Siti Hawa Othman and has 3 grown-up children.

Laila AlJassmi

Ms Laila is the former CEO of Health Policy and Strategy sector at Dubai Health Authority (DHA). She was responsible for the development of the policy and legislation for the health system in the Emirate of Dubai driven from Dubai Strategic Plan (DSP) 2015. to assure that Dubai develops a world class health system, high quality public health and healthcare service provision. She has extensive knowledge of the healthcare systems, health reforms, strategic direction, planning and delivery of healthcare services and lead the Dubai medical tourism initiative which was started in 2012 to place Dubai in the world health tourism map. Laila is a graduate from the College of Allied Health Science and Nursing in Kuwait University and in 2007 secured her Masters in Executive Healthcare Administration from Zayed University. Dr. Shajir Gaffar

A staunch advocate of Global Travel or Medical Tourism, Joyce has led various initiatives in the Philippines and internationally by partnering with the government and private sectores in the development and promotion of the country's Medical and Wellness Tourism programs towards global competitiveness. In recent years, she has been advocating the ASEAN Economic Community intergration for healthcare trade service that includes Medical Travel. At present, Joyce is the President & Country Manager for Philippines in the Aster DM Healthcare group headquartered in UAE, now considered as one of the largest healthcare conglomerates in Asia. Concurrently, she is Founder & Executive Director for HealthCore- the center for global healthcare management and medical tourism research and communications in the Philippines - conducting and facilitating workshops and conferences on international healthcare management standards that include accreditation for JCI, NABH Intl., among others. Prof. Dr. Tomas Jelinek

Professor Tomas Jelinek is the medical director of the Berlin Centre for Travel & Tropical Medicine (www.bcrt.de) and the scientific director of the Centre for Travel Medicine in Düsseldorf (www.crm.de), both in Germany. He also acts as consulting physician to the Berlin Armed Forces Hospital. He holds lectureships at the Institute of Microbiology and Hygiene, University of Cologne, and at the Institute of Social Medicine, Epidemiology, and Health Economics of Charité, Berlin. He has been appointed Consulting Expert to WHO on travel medicine in 2009 and as member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2015. Tomas Jelinek studied medicine and philosophy at the University of Frankfurt am Main and graduated in 1993. He continued his medical training at the Department of Infectious Diseases & Tropical Medicine of the University of Munich and was board certified for internal medicine in 2000, for tropical medicine in 2001, and for infectious diseases in 2003. He founded TropNetEurop, the European Network on the Surveillance of Imported Infectious Diseases in 1998 and co-ordinated the network until 2010. His professional international experience includes work in Brazil, PR China, UK, India, Kenya, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Malawi, Portugal, South Africa, Uganda, and the USA. His published work includes 152 original papers, 63 reviews, and 49 books or book chapters.

Marc Schreiner

Elena Haas

Ralf Krewer

Ralf Krewer has studied Mandarin in China before eventually graduating in Vietnamese, Chinese and Political Science at SOAS, University of London in 1996. Since then he has lived and worked in China and Thailand. In 2000 he started to work for Bangkok Hospital, originally as Foreign Affairs Coordinator (until 2002), then as International Marketing Manager and since 2008 as International Marketing Director. His assignment was and is to build up international business for the hospital by creating a referral network which today comprises of more than 50 countries in Asia, Africa, Australia and Europe. Ralf has extensive experience in setting up Overseas Offices for the hospital (Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam), contracting with Third Party Payers (Insurances, Government Accounts, Corporate Payers) and especially in setting up Facilitator Networks world-wide. Besides marketing, he is also involved in creating innovative services for the international medical traveller to enhance their experience in the hospital. Since 2013 Ralf is also responsible for international business development for 12 hospitals in the Bangkok Dusit Medical Sevices Group.

Dr. Sophie Chung

Dr. Sophie Chung is currently the CEO and Founder of Junomedical, a digital medical travel hub that is providing patients around the world access to affordable healthcare treatments. Prior to founding Junomedical in 2015, Sophie served as the Director of Healthcare Strategy at Zocdoc, a healthcare technology startup focused on doctor discovery and appointment booking. She acted lead strategy on healthcare policy and formulated strategic business partnerships for the company. She was also a project manager for McKinsey & Company’s Healthcare Practice in Berlin where she worked with hospital, health insurance and pharmaceutical industry clients. After earning her MD degree from Medical University of Vienna in 2008, Sophie gained firsthand experience in treating patients as a doctor in Australia tackling the complex issues involved in providing people with access to healthcare whilst working at an NGO in Cambodia. She has completed and presented academic stem cell research, as well as given keynote presentations on academic research and medical consumerism. Morgan Darwin

Morgan Darwin is CEO of A&K Global Health, a Fortress portfolio company founded in 2011 and specializing in trans-national healthcare management. He joined the company in April 2012 as Chief Operating Officer and advanced to Chief Executive Officer in October 2013. He has led the growth and development of A&K Global Health as they move to become the premiere, global manager of end-to-end healthcare and provider of medical concierge services. Prior to joining A&K Global Health, Morgan co-founded AFS Global, a company that assists commercial entities as they assess, initiate and execute opportunities in emerging markets. Additionally, Morgan founded and led Sophia Speira - Orsalus, a human-performance company developing education methodologies, primarily in support of U.S. government research initiatives, and cloud-based management platforms to improve outcomes in complex systems.
